Not currently compatible with ControlNet
Not directly compatible with inpaint/outpaint gens
There's two methods for using Remove Background currently. The first is to just remove the background from an image and save or use the image that way. The second is to use it while generating a new image, and it will generate a new background with the same character in it.
You can also use it in the paint tab, but the options are currently very limited
The first time you use one of the background removal options it will need to download a model for it. There's not much user feedback currently but it is working. Larger images will take longer to finish.
The first method is done by;
Placing a starting image in the given space
Opening up the remove Background tab and choosing between the three settings
Clicking the preview button
And saving the image
If all you wanted to do is get rid of the background, you can find the modified image in a folder within the same location as your output folder.
If you want to take it a step further, you can use the image with a removed background in a newly generated image, placing your cutout character in a new scene. Turn on "Remove Background in Gen"
It will remove the background in the starting image before generating a new image with the cut-out subject in a new setting that's been prompted. Leaving the character much more intact while swapping their scenery compared to a standard image to image.
(Steps to take)
Add a starting image.
Choose removal mode.
Check the box for "Remove Background in Gen"
Add prompts for background of choice.
Run the job.
Using an image with the background already removed as a starting image doesn't work as well. The transparency just gets filled with black.
Trying to use the "Remove Background in Gen" option will not work. The background won't get removed, and your masking will get ignored.
That being said, you can drag the preview image onto the canvas, regardless of the visual bug saying you can't.
The image always gets dropped at the top-left of the bounding box, and currently can't be moved. So it's probably best to make these alterations in a program like GIMP 2, until Artroom gets layers added to the paint tab anyway.
